Yuletide letter!

Hello Yuletide Santa!
It's so nice to meet you, and I am so excited. This letter is just a couple of general likes, and may not apply to every fandom or to the kind of story you want to write for the fandom, so please don’t worry about ticking these off like a list or anything! They’re just there to give you a general sense of the kind of stories I like, that’s all. Basically, write the story that you'll have the most fun writing, and I'm sure I will absolutely love it.
If it's useful, I'm mostly active over on tumblr (and the rest of my yuletide letters are over on LJ, but they're pretty similar to this!)
I love:
- Humour, day-in-the-life shenanigans and banter. As much as I love plotty fic, you could seriously have people just sitting around and shooting the shit for an entire fic or having everyday adventures, and I would be over the moon. I especially love seeing how mundane things translate into or bump up against the odder aspects of the world that characters live in, because I adore worldbuilding. Basically: I am an absolute sucker for day-in-the-life stuff, especially when the life concerned is a little off-kilter and strange.
- Families, found families, and people being partners. I love it when people rely on each other, especially when they're being super-competent together (which does not exclude them being complete dorks together, naturally). I also have a soft spot for people being protective of each other, especially when it’s done while being totally conscious of the other’s abilities. (As a corollary to that, I'm a sucker for good h/c.)
- Unconventional storytelling. I love things that have a really strong narrative voice or use slightly different ways of telling a story.
- On the romantic side of things, I absolutely love build-up—I'm a sucker for sweet, sweet understated tension and gradual realizations. I especially love it when stories put more emphasis on the showing, rather than the telling.
- I’m not a super-huge fan of straight-up angst, but fic that hits a bittersweet note is wonderful—I really love it where things that are funny and mundane sit side-by-side with sadder things.
Requests:
Angelmaker - Nick Harkaway (Frankie and Edie)
Oh my goodness, I would love pretty much anything with these two. Domestic fic set in the happier times of their relationship and the slightly unusual aspects of what constitutes domesticity when the couple concerned are a secret agent and a genius inventor? An AU that plays with the events of the novel and explores what would have happened if Frankie was still around? Shameless smut in unlikely locations such as submarines or locomotives? An AU where the two of them get to be badass old ladies togehter? Seriously, anything would be wonderful--the wackier and pulpier (and potentially heartbreaking), the better!
I also spent most of this book completely delighted by the language and its ridiculous wordiness, so please feel free to go wild with that. Or deliberately take it in a completely different direction!
Imperial Radch Series – Ann Leckie (One Esk Nineteen and Lieutenant Awn)
Oh man, I would love pretty much anything pre-series about One Esk Nineteen and Lieutenant Awn. Justice of Toren getting to know baby lieutenant Awn could be so lovely, but quiet day-in-the-life fic would be so, so amazing, too, as would be any sort of case-fic-ey planetary adventures.
The subtle worldbuilding around Raadchai culture and the world around them is one of my absolute favourite things about these books, and I would be totally thrilled to see any of that explored.
Kamen Rider OOO (Date and Gotou)
I am so fond of these ridiculous battlehusbands, and honestly, all I want is just like. Domesticity interspersed with action scenes and explosions. If you felt like writing any variation on post-battle wound tending, I think I would just quietly expire of joy. Or, really, anything about Gotou quietly pining over Date while Date obviously assumes that they're pretty much married and adopting ten kids.
Also, I love Satonaka, so any and all appearances by the most competent and stylish part of Team Birth are so, so welcome.
Kamen Rider W (Akiko)
I love the chief to pieces, and I would especially love anything about her sibling-ly relationships with Shotaro and Philip. Philip and Akiko having ridiculous adventures together to solve a case while Shotaro is incapacitated by a cold or something? Akiko and Shotaro geeking out over historical dramas? Akiko roping the agency into a roadtrip of some sort? Akiko at the beginning of the series, finding her place at the agency? Any and all of the above.
The Golem and the Jinni (Ahmad and Chava)
Oh my god, I would just absolutely love anything about Chava and Ahmad living through the coming centuries together, or the two of them living in modern-day New York. Gen, if you please! I love these two as immortal life partners, not necessarily with a romantic component to their relationship.
I also really love the sense of the New York setting in this book, and the way it feels so rooted in a certain place and time--it would be really cool to see that same kind of feeling applied to a different time period or a different place!
BOSS (Osawa and Kimoto)
God, I love Osawa and Kimoto's mentor relationship so much, and I would love anything about them hanging out together. Stuck in a car together on a stakeout! Osawa dragging Kimoto out for drinks and office events like cherry blossom viewings! The two of them investigating a crime and being very competent and also massive dorks! Yes.
(By the way, if you're in the mood for ridiculous AUs, I am so game for those, too--I'm just saying that the space AU where Osawa is a spaceship captain and Kimoto is her grumpy science officer would be gr8. Or, on the slim chance that you might be a tokusatsu fan, as well, I would read a thousand fics about Osawa and Kimoto liasing with any of the Kamen Rider police departments.)
Thank you so much, in advance, and I hope you have an excellent Yuletide!
